Frequently asked questions

Quality Standards

Quality Control

SPI

Solder paste inspection (SPI). Most component placement quality issues in electronics manufacturing originate with solder paste application. At Proplace, we provide comprehensive solder paste inspection using an in-line SPI machine that checks paste application on every PCB.

AOI

Visual inspection is carried out using AOI (automated optical inspection) machines, which can detect potential solder bridges, component misalignment and other placement defects. Read more about our AOI machine in the SMD placement section

X-ray inspection

For the placement of more complex components, where visual inspection alone cannot provide the required quality control, we can also arrange X-ray inspection of printed circuit boards through our partners. This technology is particularly useful when assembling BGA chips, as X-rays let us see beneath the chip and verify the quality of the solder joints.

FCT

Functional testing can make a major contribution to increasing the proportion of defect-free products shipped. The customer can supply the functional testing equipment, or Proplace can manufacture it based on the customer’s specifications.

  • Which stages of electronics development can Proplace take on?

Proplace can take on every stage of development (SW and HW), including bill of materials creation and PCB design. If you have already completed this work, we can develop a test fixture to your specifications, suitable for prototype or series production.

  • Which stages of electronics manufacturing can Proplace take care of?

Proplace can take care of every stage of production, offering comprehensive services from assembling different types of electronic components (SMT, THT) to coating, cleaning and enclosure assembly, which can be carried out before or after testing. You can also order only part of the service, for example SMT component placement only or PCB cleaning only.

  • What information and files do you need to prepare a quote?

A bill of materials with manufacturers’ part numbers, PCB data (Gerber files), a Pick & Place file, assembly drawing, quantities, required delivery date, and testing and other process requirements. Tailor the list to your actual requirements.

  • What information and files do you need to order a service?

A bill of materials with the component manufacturers’ part numbers and the locations where components are to be mounted, PCB data (Gerber file), a Pick & Place file, an assembly drawing (with polarities marked), the quantity you are ordering, and your requested delivery date, agreed during the quotation process based on material availability and the required production time.

  • Can you help us adapt the product for more efficient manufacturing and testing?

Of course. Our experienced electronics engineers will review your documentation and chosen testing method, then prepare recommendations to help improve production quality and save production time. We recommend contacting us during the development phase, as potential improvements are easier to implement at that stage.

  • Do you manufacture prototypes, small batches and production runs?

We believe it is important to offer solutions for both prototypes with no minimum order quantity and smaller production runs, because every mass-produced product was once a prototype or a small batch. Our production lines are planned to ensure a fast response whenever it matters most. During the prototyping phase, we monitor the product and adjust the processes as needed until we ensure a smooth transition to serial production.

  • Do you source the PCBs and components, or can we supply the materials ourselves?

We leave it up to you to decide who will be responsible for supplying the materials. You can leave everything to our experienced procurement team, with its extensive global supplier network, or handle it yourself. You can also supply only the critical components that you may know better than we do. However, any materials you supply must be packaged appropriately for automated placement and clearly marked with the manufacturer’s labels. Please also account for potential scrap when planning quantities. The Proplace team will be happy to provide all the details.

  • How do you handle hard-to-source or end-of-life components?

We take a proactive approach, regularly notifying all our valued partners when manufacturers announce a component’s end-of-life. This gives our partners a year or two to find a suitable alternative. If that isn’t possible, we may recommend purchasing a safety stock to buy some more time. If that’s not an option either, we consult the manufacturer to identify the most suitable alternatives. As a last resort, we search for stock through independent suppliers. Any purchase from an independent source must be approved by the customer, who may also suggest ways to reduce the risk, such as laboratory testing or testing the component in the product upon arrival…

  • What affects the manufacturing price and lead time?

The price depends primarily on the quantity, as the cost of electronic components varies significantly with order volume. Lead time also has a major impact on the price, as it determines which material sourcing options we can include in your quote. Proplace also offers a “Quick service” option, which gives your order priority and is especially useful for prototype production. The “Quick service” option also affects the price and lead time.

  • Do you also offer testing, and what types?

We offer a range of testing options to suit your product’s development stage and planned production volumes. Choose from flying probe testing, ICT (In-Circuit Test) or the development of a dedicated functional test fixture. If you already have a test fixture and can transfer it to our facility, we can also integrate it into our production process and carry out the testing for you.

  • What product traceability do you provide?

Every PCB in our production process is laser-engraved with a unique QR code. The data in the QR code lets us see when products were manufactured, which processes and materials were used, and where the materials were purchased. At the customer’s request, each unit can also be marked with serial numbers specified by the customer.

  • How do you protect our technical documentation and intellectual property?

We store all your documentation on our servers with access restrictions in place. Our IT infrastructure follows the latest information security guidelines. We have signed NDA agreements with our suppliers, which also ensure your data is protected throughout the supply chain.
